Stoughton, Wisconsin, November 22, 2024 – Emmi Roth received five awards for their Wisconsin-made and Swiss-imported cheeses this week at the 2024 World Cheese Awards in Portugal, including two Gold awards for their Emmi Kaltbach Le Gruyère® AOP and Emmi Le Gruyère® AOP, hand-crafted in Switzerland.

Emmi Kaltbach™ Le Gruyère® AOP matures peacefully under the watchful care of the Kaltbach Master Affineur in the cave. The mineral-rich air creates the perfect environment for transforming specially selected Le Gruyère wheels into wondrous depths of flavor. Each wheel is recognized instantly by the color of its rind – an unmistakable rustic brown patina – and its flavors of dried stone fruit, spice, black tea and hazelnuts with an earthy depth. The texture is smooth with a slight flake and pronounced crystallization.

Emmi Le Gruyère® AOP is hand-selected from just 40 dairies with careful consideration by Emmi among more than 160 creameries in small villages throughout Switzerland, ensuring only the best Le Gruyère cheeses are sold under the Emmi brand. Aged a minimum of 5 months, Le Gruyère AOP slowly matures in the cave-like atmosphere of the Emmi cellars as each wheel is delicately turned, lightly brined and brushed. This brings out the inimitable flavor featuring notes of candied walnuts, dried fruit and spice.

Emmi and Roth Cheese also received Bronze awards for three cheeses.

Emmi Kaltbach Appenzeller® owes its tangy flavor to the care with the secret, legendary herbal brine. Based on the strictest criteria, only the best wheels are selected and brought into the Kaltbach cave. The care by the cave master’s hand and the natural climate of the sandstone cave give the Appenzeller® its unique Kaltbach aroma.

Roth Canela is an award-winning American Original cheese named after the Spanish word for “Cinnamon.” This Spanish-inspired, limited-production cheese is made with fresh, Wisconsin Cow’s milk then hand-rubbed with a cinnamon and paprika blend to give it the signature reddish-orange rind and sweet flavor.

Roth Pavino is an American Original cheese from Roth cellars. Inspired by our Swiss heritage and tradition of creating the world’s best alpine-style cheese, Pavino is crafted by our award-winning cheesemakers and cured for at least nine months. It boasts a complex, yet balanced, flavor of nutty, sweet milk accompanied by an earthy depth.

Submissions for the World Cheese Awards are judged on a single day by carefully composed teams of technical experts, buyers, retailers and food authors. The jurors work in teams of three and identify all the cheeses, which then get a gold, silver or bronze award.

Judges look at the rind and the body of the cheese, color, texture, consistency and above all, taste. Each of the teams then nominates an exceptional cheese as Super Gold from their table.

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin – Roth® Cheese, Wisconsin makers of award-winning specialty cheese, took home two medals at the 2023 United States Championship Cheese Contest in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Roth Hot Honey Gouda placed second in Flavored Goudas with a score of 99.175. This new Gouda was selected by consumers after a nationwide vote to “Choose The Next Roth Cheese.” The crowd-sourcing campaign set out to take cheesemaking out of the creamery and into the hands of cheese fans who voted on new flavors of Gouda including Hot Honey, Spinach Artichoke and Buffalo Ranch.

Our Roth Creamy Havarti placed third in the Havarti category with a score of 98.675. This Danish-style classic is made using traditional cheesemaking methods, fresh milk from local family farms and premium ingredients to make this extra-creamy Havarti so special.

Wisconsin (August 27, 2021) – As more consumers find at-home uses for Swiss-inspired cheeses, Roth Cheese has introduced new packaging for their popular line of Grand Cru® products. Highlighted by eye-catching labels set to hit shelves in September, the update also includes a shift from wedges to blocks, making Grand Cru even easier for consumers to cook with.

“Our commitment to consumers is to continually develop and evolve our product lines to stay relevant as their needs and lifestyles adapt,” said Heather Engwall, Vice President of Marketing for Roth Cheese. “With the new look and format of our Grand Cru, customers will be able to provide the Alpine-style products that shoppers are looking for.”

Inspired by Switzerland and rooted in Wisconsin, Roth’s signature Grand Cru tells the story of history, tradition and commitment to cheesemaking. The newly designed Grand Cru labels feature Scherenschnitte, the traditional art of Swiss paper cutting. This folk art emerged in Switzerland in the 1800’s and remains a tradition today. The cheesemaker says the inspiration of Scherenschnitte also symbolizes the art, craft, and skill that is part of the cheesemaking culture at Roth.

Continuing in the spirit of Swiss heritage, Roth’s award-winning Grand Cru is crafted in the same way as Switzerland’s most popular cheese. To create the cheese’s robust flavor, fresh Wisconsin milk is heated in copper vats and carefully aged by Roth’s cellar masters for at least four, six, or nine months, depending on the product. Grand Cru is exclusively aged on spruce boards imported from Switzerland, resulting in a nutty, full-bodied cheese unmatched in the United States.

The new Grand Cru format offers unmatched versatility, making it a great addition to cheeseboards big and small, the perfect companion for at-home chefs, or a delicious snack for cheese-lovers. The updated packaging will be represented on several of Roth’s popular Grand Cru products, including:
